We're thrilled to be partnering with YourMomCares, a non-profit that creates and funds innovative, cutting-edge mental health programs specifically for children. Starting in 2020, 1% of our sales will be donated to their efforts, including mental health services for families living in homeless shelters, psychosocial assessments and referrals for families seen in the mobile medical clinics, and much more.
You might be asking, why are we partnering with YourMomCares? There is, in fact, a powerful connection between skin and mental health. Dermatologists often support patients' emotional well-being as much as their physical health. Most derms count psychologists and psychiatrists among the team of practitioners that they work with to support patients. Plus, countless clinical studies illustrate links between mental health (stress, anxiety, depression) and skin concerns.
When Skinfix founder Amy Risley discovered the original Skinfix healing balm, a curative ointment formulated in 1870 by a pharmacist in Yorkshire, England, she loved the unique formula. But even more than the formula itself, she was struck by the many letters that clients had written to the founding family over the years. They spoke of depression, anxiety, sleepless nights and deep emotional stress related to skin concerns. The letters praised the healing power of the ointment, not only because it provided physical relief, but as much (or more) for the mental and emotional relief it gave to them. We are no strangers to these types of letters—we receive them weekly. It is, frankly, what inspires and motivates our team every day.
This is why Skinfix and YourMomCares—an organization devoted to supporting the mental health of our most vulnerable children—are aligned in our purpose for mental health.
